Here at The Urban Gecko, we are thrilled to introduce you to the Black Pearl - arguably the rarest Leopard Gecko morph available today. This proven morph emerges from its egg as a completely solid black baby with no pattern and matures into an extreme hyper melanistic adult with a velvety appearance. It has a deep and mysterious beauty unlike anything else weíve ever seen and we are truly honored to have the exclusive ownership of this project.
Though this is the 'big moment' of their unveiling,
so many circumstances, decisions and events have lead us to this point.
The Black Pearls were brought to our attention by some German friends
of ours. They told us about Konrad Wlodarczyk a leading European Leopard
Gecko breeder and friend of theirs in Poland. And they said he was
working with a black Leopard gecko. We couldnít
believe what we were hearing! We quickly contacted Konrad to check
on availability and he told us that he was working on proving it out
before he released any. 
We maintained regular contact and hoped for the best. Then in early fall 2008, Konrad contacted us with some unbelievable news: he informed us that he had made a very difficult career decision to move to Australia and would be forced to sell his collection of reptiles, including the entire Black Pearl project. After disclosing to us that he had never released any of the offspring from his collection, he then said he would like us to have exclusive ownership of it and offered the entire collection to us for purchase. Our adrenaline started to flow.
Soon after that discussion, I boarded a plane for Poland to see the collection in person. Nothing could have prepared me for what I was about to see. We had been working on a selectively bred hyper melanistic project over the past several years with modest success and here in front of me were completely solid black offspring - a genetically proven hyper melanistic morph. I was blown away. For me, it meant I was looking at the Holy Grail of Leopard Geckos. The collection was well beyond my expectations.
Konrad and I began to negotiate a deal that would give The Urban Gecko exclusive ownership of the entire project. Even as we accepted responsibility for these amazing jewels, we were still awestruck by their very existence.
